I love reading about vampires, and this has it all. It covers conventional to the unconventional to the what the heck just happened there?!?

13 Tales in all, some obviously stand above the others but overall this is a very well done collection.
Some of my personal favorites:
Daddy Used to Drink too Much by Michael G Williams - Completely sad and heart breaking but oh so good at the same time. This was a great way to open the book. We have a vicious vampire, a weak willed and very flawed but loving father and an incredibly strong daughter.

Nitghbound by Patrick C Greene - This makes me taste the blood in my own throat it was so well written. I feel this climbs the rungs of vampire stories almost to the levels just beneath 'Salem's Lot.

Shattering Glass by Brian D Mazur - A completely new take on vampires and the delivery causes this story to rank up near the top in the entire book.

Blood in the Water by Suzi M - only three words: I WANT MORE!!!

Vermillion by Bryan W Alaspa - I love stories like this with old legends and isolated towns. The heritage mixed with ancient evil and revenge. The end result is great.

The Blood Runs Strong by Chantal Noordeloos - It does not matter if it is in a stand alone book or a collection of authors, I am starting to realize that this particular writer shines brighter than them all. She manages to pull the table cloth out from under our expectations on every plot hang. A true wordsmith, Noordeloos is a name to remember.
I kept thinking the vampires were one thing, and she flipped me over seamlessly without me knowing it until I was smack in the middle of it.

These were just my personal favorites, the entire book is a solid and well done collection of wonderful vampire stories.

Wrapped in Red Thirteen Tales of Vampiric Horror edition by Billie Sue Mosiman Patrick C Greene Suzi M Bryan Alaspa Michael David Matula Chantal Noordeloos Michael Williams Mark Parker Domyelle Rhyse Justine Dimabayao Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Over the years, I've learned that stories about vampires come in all shapes and sizes. Some are scary. Some are romantic. And some are even funny. Wrapped In Red is some of everything. This eclectic collection of vampiric short stories takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride, full of spiraling terror, screeching laughter and plummeting sorrow. And lots and lots of stomach-churning ugh!

Each of these thirteen tales have their own coppery flavor, velvety premise and grisly set of characters. Just see for yourself in the brief, spoiler-free reviews below.

"Daddy Used to Drink Too Much" I like this story for the sheer fact it doesn't revolve around the protagonist and her relationship with Percy, the elfin vampire she meets in the woods (which, let's face it, most young-girl-meets-cute-vampire-boy sagas do). It revolves around her relationship with her abusive father and the destructive power of grief and sorrow. Daddy Used to Drink Too Much is a quick, smooth read that's sure to have you "thirsting" for more...Sorry, I couldn't resist. 3/5 stars

"Nightbound" Here's a good ol' escaped convict adventure with a bloody flair. You're sure to be entertained with Nightbound's revolting descriptions, oily thugs and, best of all, ravenous vampires. Although the premise flirts with predictable, the ending still gives the reader a satisfying case of the heebie-jeebies...And a good dose of fear for dark basements and abandoned homes. If you're looking for a story in the genre "Ca-reepy", this is it! 3/5 stars

"Promises" This beautifully told story reminds me of a fairy tale. Not the happy, cotton candy kind, but the bitterly twisted kind, filled with tragedy and despair. And love. True, soul mate love that endures the test of time...But, perhaps not the test of ultimate willpower? Although promises are made and kept, other promises are made and broken. Is it weakness that finally conquers the protagonist, Amelia? Or freedom? Or heartbreak? Or revenge? It's a question you'll keep asking yourself long after you finish. Promises is one of those short stories I wouldn't mind seeing expanded into a full novel. I'd like to learn more about Amelia and Nathan's intriguing past, doomed present and mysterious future. 4/5 stars

"Ye Who Enter Here, Be Damned" Here is a sinister tale of vengeance gone wrong. Supported by vivid descriptives and black-souled characters, Ye Who Enter Here, Be Damned takes the reader on a fast-paced, topsy-turvy journey filled with dirt, blood and Southern hospitality. Well, more like Southern hostility. Trust me, you'll shiver and shudder to the very end of this one. 3/5 stars

"The Blood Runs Strong" This one has just as much "ugh!" in it as it does "ooh!". I've always found wannabe vampires ridiculous and disturbing. And worse than absurd impostors with a vicious streak are arrogant people who think they're above the rest of humankind. This story takes on both. And I love it. Even though it's easy to predict what's going to happen, The Blood Runs Strong is thoroughly entertaining, highly amusing, and disgustingly chilling. Best of all, it's completely satisfying. 4/5 stars

"Blood ties" Intriguing! This is one of the most unique vampire stories I've ever read. No garlic, no sun, no exposed jugulars, no coffins...Blood Ties takes us to Hell--literally. At first I was confused since the story revolves around Lucifer's throne and his battle with Heaven and its angelic guardians. Then we discover the vampiric twist and...oooh! All I can say is this is an original read that felt like an entire novel in just a few pages. In fact, this is another short story I wouldn't mind seeing as a novel, or even a series. 4/5 stars

"Born of the Earth" Here's a traditional vampire tale that's reminiscent of those like Bram Stoker's Dracula (a stunning young woman bitten and transformed into a bloodthirsty, lustful, demonized being). Fear not, though. Despite Born of the Earth's less than unique take on the canine-toothed creature, I found it refreshing. It's always a pleasure to read a story rooted in classic vampiric lore. They're hauntingly beautiful and perfectly disturbing. 3/5 stars

"Shattering Glass" Yet another entertaining take on vampires. Once again, we depart from the norm of Crosses and coffins and read a soul sucking story about an old man and his two neighbors--two seemingly friendly women with a sinister agenda. I applaud Shattering Glass's originality, and appreciate the creepy dynamic it added to Wrapped in Red. 3/5 stars

"The Scarlet Galleon" If you like vampiric stories with a historical-fiction base, check this one out. The Scarlet Galleon is brimming with a tasty narrative, a mysterious plot and a horrifying twist that left me shuddering and grimacing. More than anything, I loved not knowing what was bombarding the Orenta and its crew members. Mere shadows and blinding darkness can wreak more havoc on a reader's nervous system than red-eyed monsters with bloody fangs and rotting skin. 4/5 stars

"Dangerous Dan Tucker Vampire Gunslinger" Everyone loves a good ol' western, especially one that has a gruesome, mythical angle. Dangerous Dan Tucker Vampire Gunslinger entertains us with watered down whiskey, pearl handled, nickel plated Colts, and punctured throats and dripping fangs. Gross, but so good! Plus, it's always fun to read with an accent...And even more fun when that accent is Cowboy! 3/5 stars

"Blood in the Water" Heebie-jeebies galore! Blood in the Water wins the award for having the most nose wrinkling moments. And not because the story is filled blood and gore (though there is some of that, too), but because of the character Cthulhu and his slimy, snaky body...Yes, I just wrinkled my nose again! Just for its repulsing descriptions and shudder-worthy premise, I give this short story two thumbs up! 4/5 stars

"Vermilion" This one is great because it's hard to predict how vampires are going to play into the story. I know that may sound confusing or even annoying, but honestly, I found it exciting. So many times, a reader can tell within the first few lines who the villain is or how the villain is going to play their sinister role. But not so much in Vermilion. Here, you'll find a cursed town, threatening floods, and fiery explosions. But no obvious vampires...So how is it a vampire story? Guess you'll have to read it to find out! 4/5 stars

"My Boss is a Vampire" Most stories about vampires make you go, "AH!". Others make you go, "HA!" Like My Boss is a Vampire. With a Sophie Kinsella-like protagonist and plenty of chuckle-worthy moments, this comedic take on the blood sucking beings will have you rolling your eyes and laughing the whole way through...And grimacing a few times, too. It is a vampire story, after all. 3/5 stars

Whether you're in the mood for something gruesome, heartbreaking or funny, Wrapped in Red delivers! So check it out! If you dare...

Reasonable price and fantastic stories by a number of exciting authors. I gave a number of copies as gifts too! Really great!
Great short stories. Nicely horrific and creepily twisted. Worked well together. I would enjoy reading more from these authors. Nice twists at the end
This is a good little collection of vampire tales. I can easily envision it as it as a weekly half-hour horror show à la Night Gallery only hosted by Vincent Price instead of Rod Serling.

While I enjoyed most of the stories, two are of special note. Suzi M.'s "Blood in the Water" is a rich new take on vintage Western myth and literary culture. I'd love to see this writer produce more work with the character of Lilith. However, my favorite in this anthology is "My Boss is a Vampire" by David Matula. I was charmed and delighted by the ending and I just adore the character of Cameron.
Being a fan of a few of the authors, Patrick C. Greene, Mark Parker and Bryan Alaspa I knew I had nothing to lose by buying this anthology containing thirteen vampire stories and with luck I would like some of the other stories too. Well…I can say that I was not disappointed by ANY of the stories and have now found ten new authors to follow! The stories contained in this book are so very good and so engrossing that I hated it when I came to the last page. Each author brings his own flavor to each of the stories with none being the same. There is something for everyone and I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did and you too might find an author or two that you have never read anything by and also fall in love with! So…grab a cup of coffee or your favorite beverage…find a comfortable chair and snuggle in with Wrapped in Red and be prepared to be frightened!
