This was a really great read that kept me reading until I got to the very last page. My only problem with this book was that it wasn't that long and I wish I could find out what happens afterwards.James Fitzpatrick is a god on the football field. He grew up in the poor area but now he has plenty of money and he's moving up in the world. He is used to women falling all over themselves over him that he's not used to being turned down. Nadine makes him feel protective and makes him feel a need to show her that she's his. She makes him show his sweet and good side. For so long, he was just a player and jerk but she makes him want to be more and show that he is.
Nadine or Deanie grew up right next door to James but he doesn't really remember until way later. Nadine's life hasn't gotten that much better than her days of growing up really poor. She ran away when she was younger because her home life was horrible and she had to get away. She works two jobs and goes to school full time but she lives in a kitchen in a very run down apartment. She feeds a neighborhood cat and she comes across some horrible kids hurting and tormenting it. She doesn't have alot of hope or belief that good things can happen to her. She has lived too long with horrible things happening to her and thinking that she's the only one that can help and protect herself.
Definitely worth reading.

This would be your typical YA romance.
Hot young H sees insecure poor h. Falls into lust. H chases girl. Girl says no. But caves in after a very long 3 days. Haha. Drama in between. Girl has some hang-ups. Some almost-violence. I say 'almost' coz H always shows up in time to save her. Bad guy interferes with their romance. Conflict resolved. HEA. Good epilogue.
The fun thing about this book though is that it's written in short sentences. In separate paragraphs. Written in 2 POVs. I finished it so fast for a while I wondered if it was indeed over.
Further, there's really very limited side characters. The other characters had maybe 5 lines at the most. So everything really is about the h and H.
The sex was relatively steamy since the lead characters had sex on the brain most of the time. Girl's sex issues gets resolved amazingly quickly. Wish life was truly that easy.
All in all, if you are looking for a light, quick read, this is for you. If you wanted some deep, thoughtful, prose, move on. There's really not much story. Not even decent dialogue between the character. Love appears to be based on great sex. A lot of internal dialogue. But the author made it work. I wouldn't buy this for more than 99 cents, that's for sure. So it's definitely priced perfectly. And it's on Unlimited, so that's a plus. Nonetheless, I'd read more of author's books. She has great potential. And she keeps you sufficiently entertained.
★★★ 1/2
This is a really quick read, but is a stand alone, so it was a nice in between for me between series.
We meet Nadine who is struggling to make ends meet while putting herself through college, and James the star quarterback. Nadine and James know each other from childhood, but James doesn't recognize Nadine, so when he tries to pick her up, he's surprised that for once a girl turned him down. James finally figures out who Nadine is, and is drawn to her more so than he has any other girl before. He wants her, and not just for one night, and Nadine keeps pushing him away. Their back and forth is quite awesome to watch, and I enjoyed their banter.
One part of this book that I struggled with was that James seemed to want a relationship with Nadine, but all he thought and talked about was sex, and I think he would have tried harder to get to know why Nadine was pushing him away rather than thinking with his other head. James never did anything to push Nadine, and once they finally figured things out, things between them were definitely hot.
I did like how these two pushed each other out of their comfort zone, and how James refused to give up on Nadine, even though she gave him many reasons to. The ending of this book was definitely my favorite part of the book and I wanted more of these two. How it ended was beautiful though, I just wish that this book was a little longer.
If you're looking for a quick read with a hot football player and a girl who's a survivor and takes care of herself, then this is definitely one to consider picking up today. This is the first book by Joanna Blake that I've read and I will definitely be reading more books by her. The writing was good, and the story flowed smoothly. I really enjoyed how this was told in both characters POV's so there wasn't a lot of trying to figure out what the other was thinking.
Player is a very enjoyable, quick read. The characters are great and the story moves along at a good clip.
James Fitzpatrick is a college quarterback and he enjoys all the spoils that come along with that, including lots of women. When he becomes interested in a girl who is in one of his classes, he makes it his mission to hook up with her. Little does he know that there is a lot more for him to find.
Nadine is struggling to make ends meet, yet continues to plod ahead like she always has due to her very rough upbringing. She's working two jobs, carrying a full class load and when she realizes that the QB has his eyes set on her, she knows he hasn't a clue who she is. James is about to get a blast from the past...
This was my first Joanna Blake book and I enjoyed it. As I said, the characters worked for me both alone and as a couple. For me, this was just the kind of book I needed when I read it.
